Another year is about to come to an end and so is our time as Chapter Directors. We have had a great time with those of you who have participated in some of the activities that have been offered, rides to a little bit of everywhere, chrome parties, or just standing around kicking tires. We have been harassed about U turns, getting lost, how dirty our bike is (Rex), not being somewhere on time, going to the wrong meeting/eating place, or just being harassed for the pure pleasure of being able to and knowing somewhere along the line your turn is coming. We have rode and ate as many times as we possibly could, we have helped where we could and I know there are things that we would like to have done that we just didn’t get around to.
We would like to say thank you for all the wonderful memories that you helped make and the patience you had as we went about making them. We are looking forward to more fun and more memories but this time as a JAM. We have shared more miles and experienced more places than we would ever have time to list. The only way to travel is on a bike with friends going anywhere.
Please show Mike and Cindy all the wonderful support you have given us over the last 3 years and their job will be really easy and fun too.
Ride Safe and Often, Roy & Anita
PS If you are sitting around thinking about riding, call ME, I will probably be thinking the same thing.
Don’t forget -- our Christmas Party is Dec 11. We will decorate the club house at 5th Season's in Madison about 10am ( I hope). If you have any left over decorations you are not using for your home, bring them; we could use them to decorate the club house. We will leave from the club house to ride to Huntland, TN to ride in their Christmas Parade. We will be able to throw candy and small stuffed toys to the children along the parade route (bring PLENTY). We will then meet back at the club house at 5pm for our Christmas dinner and Dirty Santa ( bring plenty of $ to play Dirty Santa). Please remember to contact Julianna about what you are bringing as a covered dish (she is making a menu so we don’t have too much of one thing). Also, don’t forget to bring items for the Huntsville Teen Shelter. The ages of the teens are 12 – 19 years old. The Shelter requested small, medium, or large in the clothing.
Anita
We have 5 team members so far out of 10 that are needed to have a team. This is a worthwhile cause and we have had a team for 5 -6 years. Please contact me if you are interested in being a relay member; I need to know by Jan of total commitment of a team.
Each member is to raise at least $100 or more and be willing to do laps around Milton Frank Stadium if and when they can. You do not have to walk continuously; you can come and walk off and on for an hour and then visit while someone else walks. The Team is to have at least one team member on the track during the 12 hours that Relay is going on. Some of us will be there all night long; if you are unable to spend the night walking, you can leave whenever you want. Relay for Life would very much appreciate your support and we would enjoy your company. Bring your kids, grandkids, neighbors, family or coworkers; we have a GOOD TIME. Come join us for a night of fun raising money for a good cause.

After my last article about Team Riding and many of the things that we routinely do wrong, I feel obligated to discuss a recent ride where I was impressed by our collective ability to “do right.”
A recent ride to dinner with a planned departure from the usual Cowboy’s on N. Parkway began with an anticipated attendance of four or five Wings, but to the surprise, and joy, of most there, I believe we had nine Wings and a follow car. Since this size group may be somewhat unwieldy on the road and a bit of a hazard with regard to other traffic, we talked prior to departure and separated into two groups. A leader for each was identified, (one with GPS, the other with a map and assistant who “knew where the restaurant was”). A general discussion of the route and the first group was given about three minute’s head start. Since I was in the second group I do not know if the first group, the one without the GPS, did any Fosnight turns but our group did none. Our GPS equipped leader nearly missed one turn but our CBs saved him at the last minute and actually group two was first to arrive at the restaurant. The restaurant, by the way was closed, a fact that had escaped everyone prior to our arrival. In defense of our Ride Coordinator, this was apparently a family medical emergency which dictated a change of their normal operating schedule. Another brief conference in the parking lot and we were all off to an alternate site, again as two teams using slightly different routes.
Dinner at David Crockett’s in Tullahoma turned out as a very pleasant experience despite the “detour” and I regard it overall as a demonstration of what we, as a group, can enjoy, not just the meal but, more importantly, as a safe riding team. We did the return trip, most of it anyway, as a single group primarily because most of the volume of traffic was down and the group consensus was to ride together, in this case, safety in numbers.
My point here is that a SAFE ride which follows the basic concepts of communication both before and during the ride is every bit as enjoyable, perhaps more so, than a less safe, “seat of the pants” or “kick the tires and light the fires” type of ride. I’m sure that many of you are familiar with the old saying “Proper prior planning prevents ---- poor performance.” Having now experienced several instances of both types, I, for one, intend to make a concerted effort to enforce the proper prior planning effort more than in the past. Please join me, ride safe, and ride often.

- As a courtesy to all members, it is important to be ready to leave at the departure time.
- All bikes should be fueled and bladders emptied ahead of time.
- We will plan a variety of rides. Time and money might make it hard to make all events. We hope this variety will give you an opportunity to pick and choose.
- If the weather is bad---come in your car.
- If you have a CB, you will find us on Channel 1.
- We will meet at Mullins for our Sunday morning breakfast at 8:30 am, most of the time. However, there are some rides to breakfast at other locations. CHECK THE RIDE SCHEDULE.
NOTE: Weekend rides throughout the winter will not be scheduled unless it is something special that is not weather dependent. We will have breakfast scheduled every Saturday and Sunday, then go for a ride after breakfast or later in the day, depending on the weather, forecast, etc.
