First Saturday is the Double Springs Picnic, so pack your sandwiches (or whatever) and be ready to leave the Madison/CB Shell at 9:30.
The next day is our rescheduled trip to Miss Mary Bobo's in Lynchburg, TN.
The next weekend is Easter weekend. We don't have any rides or events planned but if the weather is good, watch the forum for any impromptu rides.
Tuesday, the 14th is our normal Chapter Gathering at Ryan's.
I hate to say this but the following day is Income Tax Day.
Saturday 18 we will be attending the Army Emergency Relief Auto & Bike Show at Bridge Street. They will be having a poker run that is being planned by our own Greg Dempsey; so it should be good.
The following weekend marks Tennessee District's Spring Fling. Watch the forum for plans for anyone wanting to team up for the ride.
Saturday 25 is Country Cruisers' Open House. There has been some talk about possibly paying the Follett's a visit and then riding to some pretty location near Guntersville. Watch the website as details mature.
The first weekend in May is the South Carolina District Rally
Friday evening all the way through to Saturday morning is the Relay for Life fundraiser and remembrance. We would love to see you come down, even if you can't stay all night.
Saturday 9th is the Southern Alabama District Picnic.
As always, the most up-to-date schedule information can be found on the website -- check it often.

Sometimes I need a reminder. How fast is fast enough?
I saw it happen again today on the way to work. Since it was only my second riding day of the year, I was being pretty careful. I was moving along with the traffic at the speed limit but lots of cars were passing me at speeds well over the speed limit and weaving in and out to gain positions further up in the pack. I travel 35 miles from Guntersville to south Huntsville to work. At "going-to-work-time" I have to keep a watchful eye on the other drivers whether I'm on the bike or in the truck. But today it seemed as if the other traffic was moving extra fast and weaving in-and-out of their lanes more than usual. So I just stuck to my speed-limit speed. When I stopped for the first light on south parkway, guess which cars I pulled up next to? The same cars that had passed me earlier! The same cars that had been weaving in-and-out to gain positions. They got to the light quicker than I did, but then they had to wait at the same traffic light as I did. What observation was re-affirmed? Ask myself, "What's my rush?" Ride sensibly in traffic and I'll probably arrive at the same time I would if I hurried. Anyone else notice this effect?
Please ride as if you are invisible, because you really are!

Even though the weather threatened to really mess up things, I had a great time. For some reason I enjoyed this rally better than most. Maybe it was because:
I don't know what made this rally so special, but I want to rally again!

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooood Morning Rocket City Wingers!
It's been a bit rainy and a bit chilly, eh? Well, it's been colder than a goose's butt in water.
From Potluck game night to Hobo Stew at the Fosnight's, it is obvious we've not been riding a bunch in the month of January. Now February started looking up a little. We had a Shrimp Run on 13 February. Where better to get good shrimp than at Gulf Shores. Good time of the year too; not much tourist action going on. We got the loving spirit going at our February chapter meeting. However, the waitresses were a little concerned that the punch was spiked. I had to swear, cross my eyes and eat a gecko to prove to them I didn't spike the punch. One girl was pregnant and she was really leery. I fessed up; Goldwingers don't do stuff like that. Now on a cruise ship, all bets are off. {Hey, anyone up for the Lido deck???!!}. The reason the waitresses at Ryan's thought we were spiking the punch was because they said we sounded like we had a lot of fun that night. I hope everyone did. I sure LOVE all of ya'lls~! .
Attendees: Greg & Renee Dempsey (bike), Roy & Anita Fosnight (bike), Betty Werman (in her hot rod van), and Steven & me (bike & trike). Already in Gulf Shores, getting gussied up in a new RV was Mike & Alice Chapman.
Well, what can I say... Gulf Shores, Shrimp... need I say more? The only thing is, it seemed like that there were some new sensors on the seats of the bikes and trike that we weren't aware of. Every time one of us sat on a bike (or Trike), it would start raining. Shortly after, we all stop at a gas station and disassembled our bikes to find the hidden sensor and removed them so the rain would stop. Other than that, what happens in Gulf Shores, stays in Gulf Shores. All I can tell ya, "poor, poor shrimp didn't have a chance!!"
Attendees: Greg & Renee Dempsey, Steven & I, Kevin & Darlene Kennemer (welcome our new members!), Amber & Amy Kennemer (twins) {note: they look nothing alike; I really think one was born on one day and the other on the next}, and Betty.. One trike; 2 bikes, one hot rod van, and one hot rod SUV.
We start off with another brisk day. For those that have never been cave spelunking, it is always a constant temperature in the cave. It was pretty darn cold but inside the cave it was actually warmer. So there you have it folks, we should all invest in a cave and live like cave folks. It's so easy, even a CAVE man can do it!!!! Ugh! Come on! You know that's funny...I don't care who ya R, that's funny! We had a nice hike in and nice hike out. It was fun. The caverns are very interesting and around every corner there is always something new to see. If you didn't know, the cave is also a place to hide if we get threatened by any tornadoes, or it also serves as a fallout shelter. If you missed it, this link will give a brief overview of what you missed, but to really appreciate it, you must go with us next time: http://www.alapark.com/CathedralCaverns/. It's a very notable place. In 1995, it provided the cave settings for the Disney Studios film Tom and Huck especially where the vicious Injun Joe (Eric Schweig) falls into an enormous chasm. You know, it's not like your typical cave. Most caves have a musty smell, this one always has fresh oxygen refurbishing the air. The mystery river that runs through it assists in keeping the air fresh. It's an experience you should experience at least once in your life and what better fun than with a Goldwinger!! We later finished up by eating at Top of the River in Guntersville. Imagine that, Goldwingers eating!! Humph, I'd never thunk it, would you? Avery met us over there and ate with us. Rumor has it that Avery doesn't like caves; I hear because he is afraid there is a shark back there in the back. Yes, at one time there was a shark in that cave! See all of the fun trivia you are missing. See ya on the next ride to Cathedral Caverns!
Attendees: Greg & Renee Dempsey, Steven & I, Kevin & Darlene Kennemer, Hiram & Lisa Bass, Avery Howard, Joann (Avery's neighbor), John & Elizabeth Griswold, Anita Fosnight's mother & sister, Anita & Roy, Richard & Sue Chapman, Mike & Alice Chapman, and some other Chapman kids, and Betty.. Ummm....NO BIKES! All cars! Shame, shame, shame....some folks let a little snow and sleet stop them from riding a bike/trike.....{holding head down in shame} I'm die-hard, but I have to draw the line at snow too!! Ha ha
It was not a surprise that Miss Bobo's called and cancelled on us. We were going gosh darn, maybe in cars, but WE WERE GOING! So, hungry, mad at Miss Bobo (just kidding), we decided to go to IHOP and have breakfast. IHOP didn't know what to think when we all strutted in there and demanded some home-cooked meals. They told us real quick, get a menu or get out! WELL! We stayed of course! Geez, we are Goldwingers. We would never shame ourselves that bad and leave a perfectly good restaurant that still had food to be cooked! No fear, we are still huntin' for a good home-cooked meal so Miss Bobo's agreed to feed us at a later date.
Attendees: Greg & Renee Dempsey, Steven & I, Lisa & Hiram Bass, Avery Howard, Walter Gersch, John & Elizabeth Griswold, Anita Fosnight, Richard & Sue Chapman, Mike & Alice Chapman, Jim & Carol Robinson. Bikes: More than one; less than 10. A few cars scattered in between.
Theme was 50s & 60s... well, well... when you aren't born till 1969, how the heck can you remember what folks dressed like? With the help of some "Y" friends that are older than dirt, they helped us out a little. The girls from Chapter B were cute as buttons; Lil' Stinkers were pink & pretty. We had a good time at the Fun Day...as always, Chapter Y really knows how to put on a Fun Day.
Attendees: A bunch of folks. I couldn't remember or count them all because I slept through the whole durn thing. Sorry about that Avery! Bikes: Surely there were; Cars: Yeah, probably.
Well, I heard through the grapevine that Avery had himself a real nice party. Lots of friends, food and fun. I'm not gonna be able to report on it as I have said, I slept through it. I know if I was awake, I would have had a real good time. For those that don't know, I've had some medical problems and slowly but surely, I'm getting better.
Attendees: Greg Dempsey, Steven & I, Lisa & Hiram, Kevin & Darlene Kennemer, Richard & Sue Chapman (on separate bikes), Peggy & Roger Allen and Kathy & Jake Lawyer and joining us later, Jimmy & Faye Williams. Bikes: 6, Trikes: 3.
We had a nice lovely ride up into Amish country. One thing you have to watch out for is Amish exhaust droppings (in English: that'd be horse manure). They really do ride buggies and horses. Well, they ride IN buggies with a horse pulling them. A few of us found some Apple butter, jam, and all sorts of Amish goodies. I found a nice cow bell. I figured I'd put it on my cow, but I don't have one, so therefore, I'll just have to use it at a chapter meeting like Frank Teasley from Chapter T does. At some point I got really tickled. Good thing I was riding with Steven. I would not have been able to drive my Trike. Must be something in the air up there in Ethridge, TN. {maybe something to do with horses? Or their excretions?} Maybe some of that manure is excreting some harmful fumes. Coming back into Huntsville, at Jordan Lane & University Drive intersection, I think the folks in all of the cars must have thought we'd been sniffing too much manure (or we were full of it) because we had us a honkin' contest. We even had some cars involved in the uproar. It was funny. You'd think it was a Goldwing parade with us coming through like that. We had a good showing. Heck, all we were doing was honking at Roger & Peggy Allen as they drove by on their way home. It was just a friendly good-bye, see ya later, had fun, see-ya-next time honk. I guess the cars were friendly too.
Hey, wherever we go, we have fun.
Attendees: Jose, Emanuel Labor, Steven, and just about all of Chapter B. Mostly cars, but I rode my Trike...naa naa boo boo. Okay, Dennis & Anne Greer, Roger & Peggy Allen, Roy Fosnight, and Greg & Renee Dempsey rode (umm, I mean Emanuel Labor aka Bob and Ms. Labor or Ms. Bob)
Well, with the scary weather reports, we were as nervous as cats on a hot tin roof with horse manure (giggle) covering it. < -- the roof, not the cat! I could say a whole lot but I'll just say this:
We had a great time, and a bunch of us "old" ladies really know how to shake our booties. We had a fantastic rally and we are looking forward to an even more successful one next year. The girls from Chapter B rock!!! Alabama Rocks!
As advocates representing our motto, FRIENDS FOR FUN, SAFETY, AND KNOWLEDGE, we love ya! Keep your eyes peeled for a hot rod Trike and matching bike!

"Shake Your Tail Feathers!"
Weather reports were very depressing as we traveled up I-65 toward the Rally site in Pelham Alabama.
Rain for four days, thunderstorms and tornados quite possible throughout the time period.
We were met by the Alabama Staff, all in raincoats and carrying umbrellas while they were setting up a tent in the vendor area, which looked more like a creek than parking lot.
Smiles and helpful hands were everywhere and I did not hear one complaint. Positive attitudes were maintained the entire weekend, even though I know they cringed every time the sun went down and the storms came back. However true to the Atlantic Sailors almanac, if the storm starts before seven it ends before eleven. By the time registration would open, the rain went away and a couple hours later, dry roads and sunshine for the rest of the day.
What a super facility and area for a Motorcycle rally. The Convention Center is located close to I-65 and backed up by Oak Mountain State Park, and has everything one needs for a rally, including a can do spirit among their staff. The roads were in great shape and Mother nature had been busy. Spring was everywhere. The hills were decorated with splashes of dogwood and intermingled redbud, cherry trees were in full bloom and scattering their petals in the wind. Left over snapdragons and pansies were happy it was raining and were ablaze with their last blooms before the summer sun ends their season.
Barber Motorcycle Museum is close enough for a short ride and can entertain most anyone for a day. The home folks did a great job of entertaining more than five hundred brave souls who chose to come, no matter what their mode of transportation turned out to be. We were pleasantly surprised to have a large number of friends from Region N and Tennessee grace us with their attendance. Thank you for braving the elements and traveling so far.
We enjoyed the talent show, and all who participated did an outstanding job, even the eighty -- eight year old grandmother who played her harmonica for us.
Huntsville is the host for next years rally and we are looking forward to the trip already. Great job guys, you know how to allow folks to experience Southern Hospitality at it's best.
Stay on the positive side,
Jim & Margie Hodge
We are having a special meeting in May to celebrate the members (that's you).
Our 50/25/25 drawing will be changed into a 25/25/25/25. What does that mean? Instead of having a 50/25/25 where we have two drawings, we will have four drawings and all of the money will be given away.
And remember this is to celebrate YOU. The discussions will be top notch; the prizes will be special; but YOU are what makes it really special.
We hope you come to celebrate. We hope you join the fun.

We are still wondering where March went. I have been on the road a lot but Anita got to get out to Chapter Y's Funday and Chapter N's meeting.
We are trying to get everything ready to take to the Rally in Pelham. We are leaving tomorrow and will be back home in what will seem like a short time mostly but occasionally like forever. Time normally goes by so fast you have to wonder where you are. We are looking forward to seeing everyone and having some laughs over costumes and stories.
We would like to thank everyone who has helped put this together and would like to ask this of all: if you have a good time, tell everyone, if you have a problem, tell someone on the Staff and we will do our best to fix it.
Please remember that Freedom isn't Free and remember our folks who are in Harm's Way, be they Military, Law Enforcement, EMTs or Firemen.
The next time you think about riding, call a friend, they are probably thinking the same thing.

Let's all get on our motorcycles and put them to work. Corky and I have only been on ours once since Spring hit us on Friday, 20 Mar 2009. But we are getting ready for a bunch of rides. Our next one is going to be to the Alabama Rally on 26 -- 28 March. This years is looking to be one of the best for Alabama, and certainly the first one in Region A this spring. I have been told that there are over 20 Venders signed up so far and so many activities planned I can't list them here now for you. Come up to Pelham Civic Center and get some fun in your glad bags.
Corky and I had the privilege of attending the first Rally of the year for Region A, down in Kissimmee, Florida on 12 -- 14 March. They have set the standards for the rest of our Region Rally's. Their next Rally is scheduled for March 11-13, 2010 with a theme of "Believe in WING MAGIC" and a 2010 Gold Wing Grand Prize so put that date on your calendar now, you'll really enjoy their Rally. Just a few numbers here from their Rally. There attended with somewhere around 40 venders selling their stuff. Alabama won the plaque for the District with the most in attendance outside of Florida, thanks to Lyn & Lynn Edwards from Chapter Y and District MED/PR from Alabaster, Steve & Tammy Hollingsworth our current District Couple of The Year from Chapter B Huntsville (who I might add may have put over 1600 miles on their bikes round trip) and should get an ATTA-BOY from their Chapter, Chase & Frieda Estes 2009 Chapter Y Couple of The Year from Pelham the city hosting our District Rally this year, Claude & Gayle Roark 2008 Chapter Y Couple of The Year from the Birmingham area, Jim Jackson Region Assistant Director from Phenix City and of course Corky and myself. I don't know who else was there, but there MUST have been more----- ya'd think?? The weather was remarkable down there in Florida, even though it was the opposite up here in Alabama. Jim Jackson told me that his ride was 100% wet for the last 90 miles while going home, sorry Jim! Because of my recent heart operation, Corky and I were forced to go down there on our 4 wheeler, but we didn't hit rain any way. One thing we found interesting on our way home was that in a very small unnamed town in Florida were Fl 44 and I-75 meet, Corky and I stopped to get gas and eat a little breakfast at Denney's. Well we walked in and to our surprise, there sat Carlos & Loraine Cerna on their way home to Pensacola!!!! I'd like to add here that Loraine was presented the 2008 Jane Agee Memorial News Letter of the Year Award at the Rally Closing Ceremony. Also, Carlos won First Place in the Mascot competition as well. Congratulations Carlos & Loraine. Their frog beat out Mr "G" again, we'll try again next year.
Alright, we are outta here for now. It's the time for riding---no excuses. Ya had all Winter to save up, so get to it, K???

It happened again today: I nearly moved into the left lane with a BUICK.
I decided to ride to work today, Monday. I needed to go around a slower car I was approaching from the rear. I turned on my left blinker (really, I did) and checked my mirror (really, I did) - it was clear. Turned my head and looked left (really) - nothing there. Starting moving left and a BUICK was there! He was flying! Between the time I looked left and the time I started moving left that BUICK had moved beside me. Lesson I learned? I learned that I MUST LOOK into the lane that I intend to move into AS I MOVE. Sound familiar to anyone else?
See you at the rally!

Hello Everyone,
Last month I talked a little about the objectives of the MAD program, this month i would like to give you a few stats on motorcycle accidents. Did you know that about 3/4 of all motorcycle accidents involve another motor vehicle? And 2/3 of these accidents were caused by the motorist failing to yield the right of way! The most common reason given by the motorist is, "I didn't see the motorcycle". Now I don't know about you, but this fact puts me a little on edge. It's kind of a scary thought to be riding your bike and knowing that there are people on the road with you who do not see you. What can we do to change this? We need to get the non riding public to drive aware that they are sharing the road with with us, the motorcycling community. This is where MAD comes into play. In the coming months I hope to have a plan in place to start making the public more aware. I will need the help of all the chapters in the state. If you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me.

Greetings fellow riders, this month we would like to report on our latest round of the Horizons Program. Beginning in late January and continuing through February we were able to conduct all four of the Horizons modules. During this time frame we had 79 people attend the sessions accounting for 680 total hours of training for this first session of the year. We would say a special thanks to all of you who took time out of your busy schedules to attend these classes. This shows your commitment, not only to yourselves, but to your Chapters and to GWRRA as a whole. We hope each of you took something away with you that will help you not only in your Chapter life but in your personal lives as well. We would also like to give a very special thanks to all of the instructors who gave of their time as well. All of you are very special to both of us and we thank you for your dedication to the members of the Alabama District.
At this writing the Alabama Rally is only a few days away. We hope all of you have made plans to attend. While you are there be sure and check out the seminar schedule we have for you this year. We have some different topics that we will present to you this year so make plans to join us.
Our Horizons schedule will resume again in August, so be sure to check the website in the upcoming months to see the schedule to be offered. Remember, these classes are not only for officers or persons who wish to be officers but for the membership as a whole. We invite everyone to attend these seminars and hopefully you will gain information and knowledge that will help you in not only your chapter life but your personal life as well. If you are not sure if it is time well spent; just talk to someone who has gone through the program and get their opinion and then make plans to join us.
If you have any questions about the Horizons program please get in touch with us and we will be glad to talk to you about it. The old saying "the more you know, the better it gets" certainly applies here. Please make plans to join us soon.
We hope to see all of you out on the road.

What an exciting month we have had.
We had our chapter Y fun day and had a final tally of 219 who attended. $1,000.00 was given away as the main prize along with other great prizes.
Chapter Y then received IT from Chapter X and Lyn & I were given IT so we could take IT to the Florida Rally. IT had a great time during IT's travels with us. IT got to see Orange trees being harvested on the way down and IT sure thought it was amazing to see. IT was captured by a spear fisherman in a net and IT sunbathed out by the pool. IT cannot wait to come to your chapters and see what exciting things you have planned for him or her or IT. I think there may be an identity crisis here.
Lynn & I hope to see you at the Rally March 26, 27, & 28.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooood Morning Alabama!
Steven and I are gearing up for a bunch of rally rendezvous' this year. We just got finished with Florida & Alabama. We are going to visit our friends in South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina, and Wing Ding in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as Region-N (also in Tennessee), Arkansas and back to Dothan for our Region rally.
We want to visit as many folks as we can because we have so much fun doing it. It's just neat to see how many ways you can put on a rally. Everyone has their own ideas for themes and the creativity is unreal. I hope we will be able to get back out to California to visit some new friends I made out there. Steven had been in just about every state and at one time I'd never really been anywhere, but now with having a Goldwing, we go everywhere, but California is one state he's not been to in all of his travels and I've been there 3 times. So, with all of the hospitality they showed me awhile back, I really had a good time and would love to go hang out with them some more, but this time, I really want to take Steven.
Point is, regardless of what coast you live on or what area you are from, Goldwingers are golden everywhere. There's nothing like hanging out with a Goldwinger. We enjoy it so much. Being Alabama's District Couple of the Year, we hope that we can represent the great state of Alabama in the best way possible. Getting out and having fun is where we start. We welcome ANY-one and EVERY-one to join us in our travels. We know you can't make every event, but if you can make just one, we'd love to spend time with you.
We live and breathe GWRRA. We truly hope we personify in the best way the concepts set forth by GWRRA. We will encourage our fellow members to sustain a certain level of support and become advocates representing our motto, FRIENDS FOR FUN, SAFETY, AND KNOWLEDGE.
Long live Goldwingers! Roll Out Goldwingers!

Hellllllllooooooooooooooooo Alabamians!
The month of March just proves that we "don't quack up under pressure." We've had many challenges in getting a rally put together for everyone to enjoy. We faced those challenges head on and we had a great rally. Some folks really worked their patooties off but by the end of the day, but it paid off. We thank those of you that worked so hard to help put on a great rally.
We had lots of vendors, NICE vendors, and we had some rich vendors by the time they left. (well maybe not rich but happy) Well, I did my part trying to help out with the economy crisis.
We had some Safety Chrome; we had some Trikes; we had some "Safety Chrome" for the women; and we even had a beautician...yeppers, Sandy the vendor fixed almost all the girls up with some "nice hair".
I think we had a little something for everyone. I hear the food was real good but we underestimated how many wonderful people would be out. The weather really caused headaches but we ended up having nice days to contend with. I sacrificed my plate of food for the folks in front of the line. Well, maybe I didn't sacrifice... I was just doing a little talking (working Hospitality issues) and just didn't get up there in time. Now, at the ice cream social... there was NO room for sacrifice. I draw the line at Ice Cream. I got my part!!! We had plenty and I think everyone had the opportunity to get ice cream if they wanted it. No rally would be complete without Ice Cream for goodness sakes!
Speaking of Hospitality; I hope Alabamians enjoyed that hospitality. There was a survey that went out and the talleys are in. I was voted to have done a great, fantastic, good, wonderful job. So, if you didn't get treated with some real Southern Hospitality, it is your own durn fault for not coming to see me for a spell for a chat & cup of coffee. I would like to throw out a big thanks to Chapter K & Chapter E folks for helping with the Hospitality room; James Wiley was a little "bug-eyed", but he hung in there for the long haul and made sure that he kept our "member of the year", Jim McInish under control. Jim's lovely wife, Betty, was there to assist James. Larry Kelley did his part too. He had to keep both of them under control. Dian Gulley did her part too. She did a fine job greeting and hospitalit'n'ing. ß Is that a word? Well, it is now. Again, thanks for all of the help. I love ya'll.
Alabama is a fine state; if you don't believe us, just ask us and we'll tell ya. You might have to grab a seat and cup of coffee, but we'll surely tell ya. We like to talk and eat... a true Goldwinger's glory.
For our first year, I think Steven did a fine job as a vendor coordinator. On short notice, he had to reposition everyone because of the fear of flooding in the back lot. I knew there was another good reason that I married that boy. His qualities as a vendor coordinator makes him my favorite husband. Okay, he's my only husband but he's still my favorite!
Thanks to all of the chapters and folks throughout 'Bama as well as vendors, and neighboring states for a successful rally, without you, there would not be a rally. We hope you had fun and we'll see you next year!
Long live Goldwingers! Roll Out Goldwingers!
